How to prepare for events after COVID

Reading Time: 3 minutes

It’s safe to say events after COVID-19 will never be the same. Events in 2020 turned to online platforms like Zoom, Google Meet and Skype to get off the ground.

The virus has metaphorically kicked the world of events’ butt and it’s still leaving its footprint over a year later – ouch!

Luckily for Australia, we’re currently facing fluctuating cases which gives us a hope that events will be able to get off the ground in 2021.

Like the members of our team, you are ready to jump back into events and start benefiting from running your own events as well as attending other networking events, conferences, fundraisers and more. Oh how we miss our event wardrobe.

So how can you start taking action to turn your event goals into reality following the effects of COVID-19?

1. Pick your date and start again

According to the Federal Tourism Minister, Simon Birmingham, over 95 per cent of business events were postponed or cancelled in 2020.

This means there are going to be a large number of event organisers who have proactively booked in a new date for 2021. If you have a specific event date in mind, contact your venue as soon as possible.

The key to event planning, especially for events after COVID-19, is organisation!

Are you worried a similar event is going to clash with yours? You can find out what events are happening in your local area by visiting your local council’s website. If you’re a Novocastrian, like us, check out Visit Newcastle’s list of events here.

Once your date has been picked, it’s time to get back into planning your event – the fun stuff!

2. Keep your event COVID-Safe

Although you may have some excited patrons ready to attend your event, you need to make sure guarantee their safety.

We recommend creating a COVID-19 safety checklist for all your events to ensure you are taking all actions to protect your guests and are following government requirements.

When preparing for an event after COVID-19, you should check you have:

These are just a few of the requirements around event COVID safety. You should also follow the guidelines provided by your state department and stay up-to-date with changing health advice.

You can keep up to date with all the changing COVID-19 restrictions here.

3. Keep your attendees engaged with exciting entertainment and speakers

No matter what your event is, your entertainment and guest speakers are some of the most important aspects.

Your attendees have just spent over a year stuck inside, attending events via Zoom, likely wearing pyjamas below the waist and a professional shirt on top (don’t give us that look, we know you did it too).

They’re ready for some FUN!

Finding exciting performers and guest speakers is an easy way to breathe life into your event. The entertainment industry has suffered greatly from COVID-19, but you can support them and keep your attendees entertained by choosing a performer they simply have to see.

Are you holding a networking event and are looking for a guest speaker? Our Chief Marketer, Holly Martin, is an experienced guest speaker and is excited to get events off the ground in 2021. Find out more here.
