Looking for the ultimate solution to increase SEO traffic to your website?

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a tricky concept. When business owners fail to see results immediately from their SEO content, they can become frustrated and lose heart. Like a marathon, SEO takes a lot of ongoing work to produce results. You can’t simply do a fast sprint to the top of a page for a search term.

However, there is something you can do to propel yourself up to the first position in the race. And it’s actually really simple.

You are going to want to save this one to refer back to later.

Increase SEO traffic with this one simple step

Ready for it – take a look at what your competitors are doing and do it better.

Conducting SEO keyword research can be long and tedious. Let’s face it – who has the time to sit down and spend hours researching key phrases, when you could spend your time more effectively writing captivating content

When conducting SEO keyword research, nine times out of ten the keyword you want to use has been taken by more established, well-known sites that not only have organic content, but also the advertising budget to back the performance of those words. This can make it incredibly difficult to rank for certain keywords.

Who wants to compete in Google rankings with the likes of Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, or official Government websites? We all know who’s going to come out on top.

Finding the right keywords can make a huge difference in increasing SEO traffic to your website. We’ve found a way to fast-track your approach if you don’t have time to do a comprehensive deep dive into the terms you should target.

Take notes from your competition

Now, we’re not saying go steal information from your competitors. But there’s nothing wrong with researching their chosen keywords and how they’ve used them on their site.

Please take a look at your competitors’ title tags and blog topics as a guide to determine the keywords they are using. You can do this by doing a quick Google of the topic you want to write about.

Take, for example, a blog about the best time of the year to buy apples. You might type into Google: Best time to buy Apples. The SEO heading (called the title tag and shown in blue) is going to give you a good insight into the keywords you could leverage through your site content.

We recommend doing some research and plugging the keywords that you find into a document or spreadsheet – that way you are tracking everything in one place, and can map out your content to ensure you aren’t cannibalising your keywords by using them on more than one page.

Alternatively, if you have access to a platform like UberSuggest, you can use the site to run an SEO analysis of your competitor’s websites and actually churn out a list of keywords they are using. The platform gives you information like:

  • Keywords used on the site
  • Monthly search volume
  • Google search position
  • And estimated number of monthly visits to their website

If you can identify the keywords that your competitors are ranking for, the next step is to simply write content that delivers more value to your target audience. And ensure you are constantly revisiting that content to keep it fresh and informative.

When crafting your content, it’s important you think about your audience first. Write in a way that is relatable to your audience, and beneficial to Google’s search algorithm. The heart of good copy is to identify what makes you different from your competitors and sell it!
