The Newcastle Youth Orchestra partnered with us to bring their 10-year anniversary vision to life.

A decade of treating people’s ears to the delights and skilled performers of the Newcastle Youth Orchestra is something to celebrate! Their Board had ideas and visions for how they wanted to celebrate this achievement and pay homage to sponsors, patrons and of course, the performers who made this possible.

So in 2023, Pat Slattery OAM reached out to our team to add a little pizzazz to their anniversary celebrations.

The situation

The Newcastle Youth Orchestra is a musical ensemble for adolescents aged 14-25 years old. They upskill and inspire emerging young performers through a repertoire of orchestral music which is diverse, challenging and great for the soul. Performers are lucky enough to play on some of the best stages in Australia.

Their umbrella name – Newcastle Youth Orchestra – also incorporates the Newcastle Wind Orchestra, Newcastle Youth Chamber Orchestra, and the Newcastle Youth Orchestra for KIDS.

Their purpose is inspiring and we are always passionate about supporting the creative arts, so we took on assisting with their events and event marketing as a labour of love.

The solution

To celebrate the occasion, we liaised with their team to bring together a special ticketed concert and formal dinner and an afternoon tea and concert for friends and family of performers. Thanks to the support and sponsorship of the University of Newcastle, the events were held at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. The Newcastle Youth Orchestra is fortunate to also receive generous sponsorship from the Newcastle Club Foundation.

We assisted the Board in garnering fundraising support from sponsors and patrons by developing a prospectus with a special 10-year anniversary design aligned

It was then a case of attracting the wider public. Over a number of meetings we provided event recommendations including:

Supplier sourcing for decorations, photography, and catering

Digital advertising strategies

Run sheet development and event logistics

Program and media wall design and development

General event management

As the orchestra was performing a program of French repertoire, the team wanted to pair this with a French dinner for the evening celebration. Think fine dining, French wines, and fancy décor!

Once the event plans were established, all that was left was for the Orchestra to put on a show!

The results

Our team was delighted to attend the evening performance and dinner. Alongside the performance from the Newcastle Youth Orchestra, the audience was dazzled by the singing of Australian opera singer, Deborah Humble.

We were blown away by the professionalism and talent of the performers and were proud to assist with marketing and event support for a fantastic local institution.

“We had big plans for our 10-year anniversary and couldn’t have achieved these plans without the support of The Marketing GP.

They offered us guidance and recommendations when we were wanting to go to the next level and we’re so glad they were able to assist our organisation. Thank you to Holly, Laura and the team!”
