Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN) supports one of the largest and most diverse regions in the state, providing essential health information, resources and programs for both community members and healthcare professionals.
Their previous website no longer reflected the scale or complexity of their work. With sophisticated navigation requirements, multiple audience groups and an expanding portfolio of services, the site had become difficult to navigate, was inconsistent in presentation and limited in accessibility.
To deliver a platform that could serve the region effectively, WNSW PHN partnered with us to rebuild their website from the ground up, combining strong website UX design, brand consistency and WCAG-aligned accessibility best practice.

Before working with us, WNSW PHN’s website had grown organically over many years, resulting in a design that no longer reflected their values, and fragmented functionality that no longer supported the organisation’s expanding programs or community needs. It had become administratively demanding, with navigation that was difficult to use and content that wasn’t tailored to specific audiences. The site also lacked a modern representation of WNSW PHN’s mission and values, reducing engagement and accessibility.
WNSW PHN needed a website that could accommodate a high-volume, high-detail digital ecosystem while remaining clear, accessible, and engaging for every type of user.
We began with an in-depth Website Discovery Meeting to understand WNSW PHN’s audiences, content model and long-term digital objectives.
From there, we mapped a new sitemap designed around the user journey. Our goal was to enable users to reach any page in three clicks or less through a modern mega menu and secondary navigation, improving clarity across more than 100 pages of content.
Our skilled copywriters worked closely with the WNSW PHN team to refine and develop accurate, SEO-focused and user-friendly website copy.
With WNSW PHN managing over 30 services across 27 Local Government Areas, each piece of content needed to be precise, medically and operationally accurate, and reflective of real service delivery.
We balanced clinical accuracy with readability for the broader community while aligning content with on-brand messaging and strategic SEO. The result was a cohesive narrative that strengthened trust, clarity and usability across every page.
Our creative team produced several brand mood boards exploring colour, typography, iconography, image treatment and layout structure.
This allowed us to modernise WNSW PHN’s visual identity while staying true to their brand guidelines, ensuring consistency across a large, multi-section website.
Before build commenced, we developed Proof of Concept and Showcase Page environments.
These stages enabled the WNSW PHN team to review layout patterns, navigation flows, content hierarchy, accessibility considerations and the user journey early on in the process.
This reduced risk, strengthened collaboration and ensured the build aligned to real user needs.
WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) is the global standard for accessible websites. Meeting WCAG 2.1 AA ensures the site is easy to read, navigate and interact with for people of all abilities, including those using assistive technologies. A full WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility audit informed the design and development decisions across the new website. With a diverse audience spanning multiple demographics, abilities and digital literacy levels, accessibility wasn’t an add-on, it was a foundation.
To build an inclusive and user-friendly experience, we improved:
By embedding accessibility into the UX from day one, the new website not only meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards but provides a calm, intuitive and equitable experience for every visitor. This ensures community members and healthcare professionals across the region can access vital information with confidence, independence and ease.
A major priority was developing intuitive, user-centred functionality that aligned with how users’ search for information.
Highlights include:
As users hover over an LGA name, the matching region highlights on the map. Selecting an LGA displays the services available in that area, making local health support easier to understand and access.

We introduced robust filters for News, Events and Jobs, enabling users to surface relevant content quickly and easily.
Dedicated sections for community members and healthcare professionals ensure each group can access the information most relevant to them.
The new WNSW PHN website was engineered for scale.
With content, services and programs that evolve frequently, the site required an architecture capable of supporting ongoing growth without compromising consistency or performance.
The result is a dynamic, future-ready website that supports:
This technical foundation ensures WNSW PHN can expand services, publish frequent updates, manage dynamic content and maintain long-term digital accuracy, all within a cohesive, future-ready framework.

The new WNSW PHN website is a complete transformation across scale, structure and usability. It delivers:
The impact of the redevelopment was recognised internationally, with the website winning a Web Excellence Award in the categories of Health Care Services and Public Services. This recognition highlights the impact of the platform in delivering accessible, user-focused and purpose-driven digital experiences within the healthcare sector.

The final result is a polished, scalable and future-focused digital platform that reflects WNSW PHN’s commitment to supporting healthier communities and providing accessible, meaningful health information online.
Early feedback from staff and key stakeholders has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly around the improved navigation, engaging design and enhanced accessibility for visitors with specific accessibility needs.
