It’s 2023… your business needs a logo design that is cutting edge, and instantly recognisable. After all, how can you expect to stand out from your competitors if you don’t have branding that makes people say ‘WOW!’
Your logo is the face of your brand and should be memorable, just like that catchy song that’s been stuck in your head all week. And what better way to market your brand, than to have a strategic logo that tells your brand’s story.
So, how exactly do you step up your logo game? Keep reading on to find out our secret sauce to elevate your branding.
The importance of a killer logo design
Did you know that it only takes ten seconds for consumers to form an opinion of your brand?
Seeing as our attention span is getting shorter and shorter, it’s more important than ever that your branding is clever and creates a lasting impression.
Take McDonald’s as an example – what comes to mind? Of course, the golden arches! They have monetised this icon to be immediately recognisable during car trips, with their light up, giant golden ‘M’ viewable from the road. Talk about memorable branding!
The best way to make your logo stick in people’s minds is to have it strategically placed on every touchpoint they interact with, from your social media posts, to signage, your website, staff uniforms, and brochures.
But where do you start?
Take your logo from meh, to memorable
There are several factors that help to make a logo stick in one’s mind. These are relevancy, simplicity, originality, colours and fonts, and flexibility.
Of course, we’re here to help give your logo and branding the competitive edge. Get in touch with us today to find out how we can help!
Relevancy
First and foremost, a logo needs to be relevant! Is your logo suitable to your business, industry, and target audience? If not, this is going to cause chaos in people’s minds, damaging your reputation as a result.
Let’s take a law firm’s logo for example. People resonate lawyers with professionalism, knowledge, and confidence.
It therefore may not be suitable for them to opt for a logo with bright, fun colours with child-like style font work. This would create the opposite image in people’s minds, negatively impacting their brand image. People may not take them seriously.
Simplicity
Think of some of the world’s biggest brands – Nike, Apple, Coca-Cola. What is one thing they all visually have in common? The logos are simple. In terms of branding, simple is good! Simple is memorable.
According to HubSpot, the best logos are the ones that give the viewer an immediate sense of who your business is. Let’s face it, we don’t have the time to sit down and deconstruct the meaning behind an overly complex logo.
Our biggest tip is that if you have elements in your logo that don’t contribute to the bigger picture – take them out!
With our short attention spans, overly complicated, detailed logos make it hard for us to remember them.
Take for example the logo design for Drssd, a client of ours providing a fresh approach to women’s workwear. They were after a brand that is classic, timeless, yet stylish – just like their products. Our team of experienced designers created the below logo for the brand which met the client’s brief perfectly! Elegantly modern and professional, the client was thrilled with the results.
Have you realised maybe your current logo isn’t up to scratch?
Let’s help take it to the next level! Book a meeting with our Chief Marketer, Holly Martin to discuss how we can take your logo from mediocre to incredible.
Originality
We’ve all come across a logo before and thought to ourselves “wow, that looks really similar to ….” This can be embarrassing and can also cause confusion amongst your target audience.
This can be even more difficult if two logos in the same industry look very similar – not to mention, cringy!
It is crucial for your logo to be original, so it will help set you apart from your competitors. It can also be beneficial to showcase your brand’s values, personality and that pizzazz that helps you stand out from the crowd.
The rebrand for Collective Financial Partners was the perfect opportunity to create a strikingly unique logo to go with their brand new name. The logo is a contemporary take on the letters C, F and P, uniting the three letters to represent the brand’s wholeness.
Colours & Fonts
Now for the fun aspects of a logo – the colours and fonts! The physical elements of a logo obviously need to be eye-catching.
There is so much technical thought that needs to go behind the exact colour shade, the type of font, even the placement of the various elements together. Randomly combining the components of a logo can appear messy and unprofessional – two words you don’t want to be known for.
Flexibility
No, we don’t mean whether your logo can bend backwards.
An effective logo should be able to be applied to a variety of mediums and formats. From your website to your social media posts, shirts, billboards, business cards and signage.
Your logo should be legible from any size and can be applied to both horizontal and vertical formats. What’s the point of having a flashy, sparkly new logo if you can’t use it?
Professional brand designers will often produce multiple file formats of your logo for this very reason.
Our very own rebrand is an example of how many variations of a logo one brand can have. The majority of logos usually aren’t versatile enough for multiple platforms, especially with all the different screen sizes we have today. A horizontal logo will often be your primary logo, with a stacked version perfect for a flyer, pull up banner or for merchandise. A lockup is a great way to include your key messaging, and of course your icon alone is a must-have for your social channels.
So now you know all about what it takes to make your logo great, here are some questions to ponder:
- Do you have your logo in both CMYK and RGB ?
- Do you have your logo in a black and white or greyscale variation?
- Do you have multiple file types of your logo? EPS, JPG, PNG, SVG? (Not sure what all these files are? That’s where a professional graphic designer comes in.)
Not sure what all these files are? Not to worry, that’s where a professional graphic designer comes in.
These are all necessary formats that you should have, and if you don’t have them, our friendly team can provide a helping hand.
